The Need

-     There are approximately 6.2 billion people in the world.

-     1 in 2 lives on less than $2.50

-     1 in 3 is younger than 18 years old

-         1 in 6 has no access to sanitation (1.2 Billion)

-         1 in 7 will go hungry tonight (1 Billion)

-         1 in eight has no access to clean water. (900 million)

-         24,000 children under the age of 5 die daily from preventable hunger and disease

The Answer

-         Due to the combined efforts of charitable individuals, Christians, and relief organizations like World Vision, that number dropped from the 40,000 level of the 1990’s

-         World Vision is a humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the issues of poverty and injustice.

-         Clean water for a year for 1 person is only $1.

-         A $35 monthly sponsorship provides a child with nutritious food, clean water, sanitation, healthcare, education, economic opportunities for the family (new/improved skills, microloans for small businesses, etc.), and spiritual nurturing by working with local churches and pastors.

-         Nearly 4 million children benefit from World Vision sponsorship programs

-         World Vision provides hope and assistance to approximately 100 million people in nearly 100 countries.

-         Of World Vision’s 40,000 staffers, 98% of them work in their home region (employing local people and saving resources spent on training foreigners in the language and culture).

-         World Vision spends about 15 years in a project area developing the community to become self-sufficient.

-         In 2009, 89% of operating expense used for programs benefitting those in need.

-         High ratings from charity watchdog groups:

o       Charter member of Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (EFCA)

o       Better Business Bureau accredited charity

o        4-star (highest rating) on Charity Navigator
